Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho was clearly less than impressed with referee Clement Turpin after he was sent off during their 1-1 draw with Manchester United

A furious Jose Mourinho stormed down the tunnel and unleashed a foul-mouthed rant at full-time after his Fenerbahce side were denied a penalty against Manchester United.

The former Red Devils boss saw his new team draw 1-1 against United in the Europa League. But that was only half for the story on a dramatic night for the Portuguese coach.

After watching Youssef En-Nesyri cancel out Christian Eriksen’s opener four minutes into the second half, Mourinho was left fuming on the touchline when Fenerbahce were denied a penalty and was subsequently shown a red card for his actions.

Mourinho watched the rest of the match away from the touchline – but TNT Sports revealed that the former Chelsea and Tottenham manager was less than impressed at the final whistle.

A social media post outlined that Mourinho had made a hasty exit at the final whistle after ‘making his disgust clear’ at the referee’s failure to award Fenerbahce a second half penalty.

And TNT Sports host Jules Breach implied on TNT Sports’ live coverage of the match that Mourinho had dropped some colourful language prior to making his exit, saying: “Not very nice language is all I can say…I can’t repeat what he said!”

Mourinho refused to speak about the incident in his post-match interview, though he did reveal that he was amazed by what referee Clement Turpin told him when he visited him after the game.

“I don’t want to speak about it,” Mourinho told TNT Sports. “The referee told me something incredible. He said at the same time he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline. I congratulate him because he is absolutely incredible. During the game, 100 miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on my behaviour on the bench.

“That is why he is the one of the best referees in the world!”

He went on to praise his team for their performance, saying: “I think my boys did an amazing match. Probably in England people will speak of two or three players for Manchester United who did not play, you do not know how many of us didn’t play. At the start we had four players out of the list, and we had injuries. We had to do a crazy puzzle. Our performance was extraordinary. I could not ask any more from the players.”
