Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has confirmed that he is set to go under the knife after the Club World Cup, with the England international “fed up” of dealing with a shoulder problem
Jude Bellingham has revealed that he will be undergoing surgery after the Club World Cup in a bid to correct a longstanding shoulder injury that he has been managing since 2023. Bellingham has been wearing a protective brace while playing through the pain, but the decision has now been made for the midfielder to go under the knife.
Speaking after he scored in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Pachuca, Bellingham said he is “fed up” of wearing the brace and admitted the operation was a “long time coming”. The England international told reporters: “I’m fed up with the brace.
“Hopefully we get to the final and I’ve got surgery a few days after the tournament to get it fixed. I’m really happy about that. It’s been a long time coming. I’ve got to the point where the pain isn’t so bad.
“It’s more just getting fed up with it, with players tugging on it and it getting re-arranged every time. I think I’ve come to the end of my patience with it.
“I’m sick of playing in a brace, especially in this heat and it’ll be nice to have my old body back. I’m at that point where I’m ready to have a free shoulder and a free body.”

Bellingham dislocated his shoulder during a 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano back during his debut season at the Bernabeu. He has been playing with the brace ever since and there were suggestions that he would undergo surgery after Euro 2024.
However, England ended up reaching the final and there was not enough time between then and the start of the new season for Bellingham to have the surgery and recover without missing any matches.
Real Madrid are entering a new era this season, with Xabi Alonso having replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, and Bellingham has been hugely impressed by the new manager. The 21-year-old praised the way Alonso “decided to change shape” against Pachuca after Raul Asencio was shown a red card just seven minutes into the game.
“It was tough after Asencio was sent off,” Bellingham said. “He’s a young defender, it happens, there’s no harm in that. It was a test of our character, and a test of our leadership. The manager [Alonso] decided to change shape, and we all took that responsibility well.
“We had to weather the storm, [Pachuca] had a lot of shots. Thibaut [Courtois] was fantastic. It’s a good win, still not perfect, but the coaches’ ideas are amazing, and we want to keep going.”
