Jude Law has opened up about postponing his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony following the death of his mother, Maggie Law
Jude Law recently shared the emotional experience of postponing his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony following the death of his mother, Maggie Law.
Maggie, who passed away just before the event, was a strong influence on his life and career. Law reflected on the bittersweet timing, honoring both his mother’s memory and the achievement.
Jude received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday. The ceremony honored his significant contributions to film and television, marking him as the 2,798th recipient of the accolade.
The event took place shortly after the release of his Disney+ series Skeleton Crew and featured speakers such as David Lowery and Jurnee Smollett.
In an interview with People, Law reflected on the moment he learned he would be receiving a star, saying: “It’s been actually quite a long process because I found out and was originally going to have the service a couple of weeks back.”
“And actually, I lost my mom. So we had to delay it. But in a very odd way as a kind of final gift, it meant that a few more of my family could actually be here.”
Jude expressed how much his family has supported him during this time. “They were just lovely. I mean, they’re always so supportive and loving. We are very lucky to have each other, but they’re my backbone,” he said.
Although Law did not mention his mother’s death in his speech at the ceremony, he did credit his parents for instilling in him a love for film.
He shared: “I had a mother who showed me the great silent movies and comedies and musicals and dramas of the Hollywood Golden Era, American new wave [and] foreign movies. And I had a dad who took me in the ’70s and ’80s to blockbuster movies where we ate our bodyweight in popcorn and chocolate.”
Jude was accompanied at the ceremony by his wife, Phillipa Coan, and their two eldest children, Rafferty, 28, and Iris, 24
The film star has had an extensive career spanning three decades, featuring prominent roles in films like The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, and Sherlock Holmes. More recently, he starred in the Star Wars spin-off series Skeleton Crew
Jude has received multiple prestigious nominations, including Academy Award nominations for The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain. In addition to these nominations, he won a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal in Cold Mountain and a Golden Globe for his role in The Young Pope.
