Kate Garraway has responded to rumours she’s dating again. Ahead of her appearance in the Celebrity Traitors, the Good Morning Britain star opened up about life after her husband’s tragic death.

In March 2020, Kate’s husband Derek contracted Covid and Kate had to become his full-time carer, as well as the family’s primary earner. A few years later, Derek died. Since then, Kate focused on raising her two children, Darcey and Billy.

There’s been a lot speculation about whether or not Kate has gotten back into the dating world but she has now provided un update on her romantic life. She is not dating – she doesn’t feel she can.

When asked about dating, Kate said she found the speculation about her love life “hilarious”. “I don’t have Facebook but all my friends tell me there’s loads of stuff about me being in a relationship and having a boyfriend on there,” Kate told the press.

“On the internet too, one website said, ‘We have everything you need to know about Kate’s new man’. It was an AI mix of Ben Shephard’s face with a man who works with me. I thought it was hilarious.”

She added that it made her wonder about dating again, but she realised that she wasn’t ready. “This has made me think about it and honestly, I don’t feel as if I can.

“It’s a weird one, because I wouldn’t like to think I’d spend the rest of my life without love, but also it feels preposterous at the moment to think of being with anyone else.

“What Derek and I loved was our home life and just pottering around, and we had 21 years of that, so mentally I am still in that zone.”

Kate continued to say that “when the time is right” she would be open to dating, but doesn’t quite know how to anymore. “I kind of wish I was in my 20s for lots of reasons, particularly when I see my bottom in the mirror! But it feels as though socialising was easier then. I can’t imagine ever going on a dating app. I’m so private.”

But for now, that time is far away. She wants to focus on seeing friends again instead. “I’m going to start going for drinks with friends and try to have a social life that isn’t based on being a mummy. I just don’t feel mentally ready for more than that.”

Kate will shortly be seen on the Celebrity Traitors. The star-studded spin off of the hit game show will start in October and see several household names attempt to root out who amongst them is a trusted faithful and who is a traitor, trying to steal the prize money for themselves.

Kate will be joined by celebrities from all over the entertainment spectrum, including Stephen Fry, Tom Daley, Clare Balding and EastEnders’ Tameka Empson.
