Prosecco experts reveal the steps you need to take to ensure that your Prosecco stays fizzy and retains its taste after it’s been opened

If you’re wondering how to keep your Prosecco fizzy for days after opening, these expert-approved tips are just what you need.

According to the experts at Sparkling Direct, once you’ve opened a bottle of Prosecco the shelf life is ‘significantly reduced’. They also explain that the taste of an open bottle of Prosecco will also begin to diminish – with the alcohol ‘tasting flat and bubble-less’ – after one to three days, even when it’s being stored correctly.

However, despite the poor quality taste of Prosecco that’s been open for a few days, the experts explain that drinking flat Prosecco ‘isn’t bad for you’ it just doesn’t taste as nice as a freshly opened bottle would do. They add that once the usually fizzy alcohol goes flat, it’s essentially just ‘like any other white wine’ and has a shelf life of around two to three days.

The good news is that you can extend the shelf life of an opened bottle of Prosecco, ensuring that it lasts for longer, without losing taste quality. The experts explain that to extend the shelf life of a bottle of Prosecco there are two things that you need to do once the bottle has been opened.

The first thing is to use a Champagne stopper, to help ‘preserve the carbonation and flavour’ for up to 12 hours. However, they also warn that it’s still best to drink a bottle of open Prosecco within 24 hours.

The second step, to make sure that your opened bottle of Prosecco lasts for longer, is to ensure that you’re storing it in the fridge. By resealing the bottle and popping it in the fridge, you can ensure that its flavour and carbonation are maintained.
