Kevin Spacey, 64, was fired from House of Cards in 2017 amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and tonight told Piers Morgan he says it was the wrong decision

Kevin Spacey took a stab at the Netflix bosses who sacked him from House of Cards and exiled him from Hollywood and says the show ‘put them on the map’.

The shamed star was cut from the programme following the sexual misconduct investigation, something the production company said led to it losing millions of dollars in revenue. During a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan on Uncensored tonight, the actor said it was the wrong call.

The streaming giant also said at the time it would cancel the Gore Vidal biopic, Gore, which was set to star the two-time Oscar-winner. Spacey said the quick decision to part ways ‘sent a signal’ to the world and he told the host that he felt he deserved some support.

He said: “I think that we had a really remarkable relationship and I think that there is no doubt that House of Cards really put them on the map. Even though they made the decision they made, which I think was a strange decision… I believe it was a wrong decision. I believe it was wrong for them as a company.

“I believe that it put them in a position where then anyone who was ever accused of anything, they had to respond in a similar way, although it does seem with Dave Chappelle that [Netflix CEO] Ted Sarandos has learned to be supportive of controversial individuals.

“I do wish he had done it with me. I believe that part of what ended up happening as a result of them, in a sense, getting rid of me so fast, was they sent a signal to everyone else. ‘Well, they had this long relationship, they must know what’s real’. And they didn’t know anything and they didn’t wait to find out what it was that might be discovered.”

Back in 2017, the statement read: “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.” The statement continued: “We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”

His career and life unravelled when he was accused of sexual misconduct in 2017 but was found not guilty in a 2022 New York lawsuit and was acquitted of sexual assault charges in a separate London trial in 2023. He is due to stand trial in the UK again, likely in early 2025, over a lawsuit by another man claiming Spacey sexually assaulted him. Spacey has denied all allegations. He admitted wrongdoing to Piers and stated that he had acted inappropriately towards people. When asked about his “bad behaviour”, Kevin responded that he had been “Pushing the boundaries”.
