Kobbie Mainoo could be on the move during the January transfer window, with Napoli still keen to sign the Manchester United midfielder, who has been linked with a loan switch.

Kobbie Mainoo could leave Manchester United in the January transfer window as Napoli continue to be linked.

Fresh reports outline that Kobbie Mainoo could be granted his Manchester United wish when the January transfer window opens. Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri suggest Napoli remain in dialogue with the United midfielder’s representatives after pursuing the 20-year-old throughout the summer window.

The latest report indicates a temporary switch is now under consideration, which would provide Mainoo with the regular action that he craves – while furthering his development. Antonio Conte is understood to be keen to wrap up negotiations swiftly.

Should Mainoo complete a switch to the Serie A outfit, he would link up with former Red Devils’ midfielder Scott McTominay in Naples. The Scotland international has emerged as a firm supporters’ favourite following his transfer to Napoli just over a year ago.

McTominay was instrumental in their Serie A title triumph last term – despite being considered expendable at Old Trafford. Mainoo is yet to earn a Premier League starting berth under Ruben Amorim this season, managing merely 113 top-flight minutes so far.

The England international requested an Old Trafford exit this summer to secure regular opportunities on the pitch, but the club insisted he remain and compete for his position. During the final week of the window, Amorim declared: “I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place – and we need Kobbie. So that is not going to change.

“The rest I don’t know how it’s going to finish. I understand that the players that are not playing in this moment are disappointed, but everyone has the same opportunity to play. You have to fight during the week.”
