Married At First Sight Australia star Lachlan Rofe has died suddenly at home at the age of 47 as tributes to the reality TV star have poured in across social media
Former Married At First Sight Australia groom Lachlan Rofe has died at the age of 47. The news has prompted tributes to the reality TV star on social media this week and fans have expressed condolences to his loved ones.
Lachlan is best known for having appear on the first series of MAFS Australia, which aired in 2015, and later ended up splitting from bride Clare Tamas. Also known as Lachlan McAleer, he then appeared on the Farmer Wants a Wife.
It’s now been announced that Lachlan has died, with it reported that the cattle farmer died “suddenly” at a home in Camden in New South Wales, Australia. A cause of death has yet to be reported though.
New South Wales Police, who didn’t name Lachlan, have said in a statement: “About 10am on Tuesday (9 September 2025), emergency services were called to Old Razorback Road, Razorback, after a man was found unresponsive in his home. NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and commenced CPR, however the 47-year-old man was unable to be be revived.”
Police added in the statement that “investigations are continuing”. They said: “Investigations are continuing into the circumstances and anyone with information is urged to contact Camden Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. A report will be prepared for the coroner.”
The news of his death has prompted condolences and tributes to on social media. One person wrote on Facebook earlier: “Very sad news. Sending love & hugs to the family.” Sharing their thoughts, another said: “This is so sad.”
Someone else commented on the platform: “Rest in peace, Lachlan.” A fourth wrote in response to the news: “Geez I remember him. How very sad. So young.” One person said: “Such sad news. Condolences to his family and friends.”
Lachlan was a groom on the first series of MAFS Australia, which was launched on the Nine Network in 2015. He was matched with bride Clare for the experiment and the couple ended up making it to the final decision together.
It was however later announced that they had separated after filming concluded but they were said to have remained on good terms. Lachlan then shared that he still looking for love amid the news that he would be appearing in the ninth series of the Farmer Wants a Wife, which aired in 2016.
He told A Current Affair in a video message released in 2015: “Thank you in your support in helping me on my quest to find love on Married at First Sight. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out but I’m still looking for love and I’m happy to announced that I’ll now be joing the Farmer Wants a Wife.”
The show, based on the UK series of the same name, saw farmers looking for a wife. Lachlan chose Belinda as his future wife towards the end of the season but it was later announced that they had decided to split up.
He later made headlines over a subsequent relationship. It was reported that he had been found guilty of assaulting Casey Williams in 2017 but, according to The West Australian, no conviction was recorded. It reported in 2018 that after appealing the decision, a magistrate found that he was wrongfully convicted of assault and he was cleared of assault charges.
