Second-row, 21, joins the Robins on a two-year deal after successful trial period following his release by Leeds Rhinos in early October

Leon Ruan reckons Hull KR will get the best out of him after he signed a deal following a successful trial.

The young second-row’s Super League future looked up in the air after Leeds released him early in October. But he has impressed during a pre-season trial period with the Robins and has now penned a two-year contract with the beaten Grand Finalists.

Ex-Doncaster forward Ruan, 21, said: “I’m over the moon to be signing. The opportunity to come here was something I knew I had to grab with both hands and throw myself into. The trajectory of the club is something I’d love to be part of and I think this club is the best place to get the best out of me on the pitch.”

After joining from part-timers Doncaster, Ruan made a try-scoring Super League debut for Leeds against Wakefield in 2023. He has gone on to make 15 Super League appearances, including four while on loan at Hull FC earlier this year.

KR head coach Willie Peters said: “Leon has proven he wants to be a Hull KR player through his actions in training.

“He can play in the back-row and the middle, and we see him as a player who will hopefully develop over the next two years into being a long-term Super League player.”

Ruan becomes Rovers’ ninth new signing for 2025. He follows fellow Leeds second-row Rhyse Martin from Headingley and joins Catalans duo Tom Davies and Michael McIlorum plus Kiwi prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves from Sydney Roosters.

London pair Bill Leyland and Lee Kershaw have also moved to Craven Park with Bradford’s Eribe Doro and Castleford half-back Danny Richardson.
