An insanely popular product has been flying off the shelves in several UK supermarkets this week, resulting in a slew of major retailers implementing a strict cap for shoppers
Several of the UK’s main supermarkets have resorted to limiting shoppers wanting to get their hands on an ‘incredibly popular’ product. Last year, the iconic Dubai Chocolate – a milk chocolate bar filled with pistachio and crunchy Kadayif, a type of shredded pastry – took social media by storm.
Frenzied shoppers went mad for the chunky chocolate bar, with many splashing out on extortionate shipping costs to import the sweet treat, which originates from the United Arab Emirates. The hype around the dessert hasn’t died down thanks to TikTok, resulting in many supermarkets releasing their own version of the bar for a fraction of the price. However, due to high levels of demand, many retailers have introduced a strict rule for Brits desperate to taste the viral chocolate. It comes after chocolatier Lindt has once again released a limited-edition stock of the bars, after selling out in five days back in December.
Supermarket giants such as Waitrose, Ocado and Lidl are among those curbing Brits’ bulk buying the chocolate, but not every retailer is following suit. Morrisons has confirmed to the Mirror that such a cap is not in place across its stores – which means customers can freely buy its £4 version, depending on stock availability.

Lidl
Lidl unveiled its new JD Gross Dubai-Style Chocolate earlier this month, debuting the chocolatey treat on TikTok Shop where 72 bars were sold every minute until none were left. As previously reported, starting this weekend (Saturday, March 29) the supermarket is bringing the chocolate bar back, and this time, you’ll be able to find them in stores.
Priced at £3.99 for Lidl Plus shoppers, saving on the standard £4.99 for non-members, the Dubai Chocolate will be limited to two bars at a time per shopper. This helps make it fairer for people wanting to get their hands on the affordable treat.
Morrisons
Back in January, Morrisons launched their Flair Pistachio Kunafa Dubai Chocolate Cake Bar, priced at £4. Chocolate fans said the treat was ‘worth every penny’ while others argued the treat was ‘overpriced’.
Speaking to the Mirror, Morrisons confirmed there are no restrictions on how many bars customers can purchase. However, the supermarket did not wish to comment on the chocolate’s success.
Ocado
Launching on Ocado’s website on March 19, Lindt’s Dubai Style Chocolate bar has an eye-watering price tag of £10. Still, it has proven so popular Ocado has also put a strict rule in place for shoppers.
“Lindt’s Dubai-style pistachio chocolate is proving so popular that we are introducing a four-bar cap per order to ensure that as many shoppers as possible have a chance to try it,” a spokesperson told the Mirror. Sales of M&S Pistachio Crème spread are [also] up 107 per cent week-on-week at Ocado, and demand for the M&S Pistachio Egg remains incredibly high.”

Waitrose
Shoppers will have to wait a few more days (March 31) before they’ll be able to spot the Lindt chocolate in-store. However, the supermarket has already imposed a ‘two-per-person’ restriction, with a spokesperson stating: “Due to the incredible popularity of this product, we want to make sure that as many customers as possible have the opportunity to try it.”
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s has been stocking the Lindt Dubai Chocolate since March 19 – but they are labelled as out of stock online. The Mirror has contacted the supermarket for comment, but is yet to receive a reply.
