Shoppers heaped praise on the mint-infused scalp treatment designed to strengthen hair and invigorate hair follicles

Lush shoppers have praised a ‘life-changing’ £18 scalp treatment that’s reportedly helped customers experiencing stress-induced hair loss. Highlighting the popular product in a post on TikTok as @islandgirllonelyworld, a shopper named Em opened up about their hair loss and the positive difference they noticed after using Lush’s Roots scalp treatment.

Em wrote: “No because Roots by Lush has CHANGED my life. Stress hair loss? Fixed. Any residue product? Gone. Softest hair ever? Check. I use it once a week and it’s my favourite product ever made. I think everyone needs to try it.”

In the caption, Em continued: “By ‘stress hair loss’ I mean ur girl was balding because of stress.” In the comments, she added: “I was experiencing a lot of hair loss from stress and found this mask helped A LOT with the regrowth process (more specifically, I had some very sparse areas that filled in after using it for ~1 month).”

Another commenter shared: “Me too!! I was experiencing such bad hair loss due to stress. This mask helped so much. Except now my baby hairs are crazyyy!” According to Lush’s website, Roots is a stimulating mint booster. The scalp treatment is available in two sizes. The 225g option costs £18, and the 450g option costs £30.

Made with peppermint oil, spearmint oil, honey, nettle, grapefruit oil, and sweet orange oil, the treatment should be applied to dry hair and then rinsed before shampooing and conditioning as normal. It is designed to “invigorate the scalp and hair follicles”, and it’s received hundreds of five-star reviews from customers.

Responding to Em’s viral TikTok, several viewers shared their thoughts on the product. Someone replied: “Been my holy grail for years, makes the hair so soft and gives volume.”

Another commented: “I used to use it religiously I think this is my sign to buy it again,” and a third shared: “Rehab shampoo (also from lush) with roots has made my hair SOOO full and thick I will never use anything but lush haircare.”

However, a different commenter claimed: “It was too much for me. It felt like my scalp was on fire from the mint. It’s def overstimulating for some ppl. Glad to see people use it.” Another wrote: “It’s a shame I never ended up liking this product because it smells lovely.”

The NHS says: “It’s normal to lose hair. We can lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day, often without noticing. Hair loss is not usually anything to be worried about, but occasionally it can be a sign of a medical condition. Some types of hair loss are permanent, like male and female pattern baldness. This type of hair loss usually runs in the family. Other types of hair loss may be temporary.” Hair loss might be caused by an illness, stress, cancer treatment, weight loss, or iron deficiency. As such, a treatment that works for one person may not be right for another.

Explaining the possible benefits of using peppermint oil, Healthline says: “In many instances (such as in female or male pattern baldness), hair loss occurs due to starved blood flow to hair follicles. Increasing circulation with a vasodilator like peppermint could potentially improve hair growth and prevent some hair loss.” However, more research is needed to better understand the effect of peppermint oil on hair growth.
