Lionel Messi left David Beckham’s mum, Sandra, starstruck as she met the Inter Miami star in Florida as they shook hands and posed for photos with talk of the player’s contract still in the headlines
David Beckham’s mum cut a starstruck figure when she met Lionel Messi at Inter Miami’s training base as she posed for a photo with the Argentina icon.
Messi has been playing his trade in Florida since calling time on his spell with PSG. Since joining he’s taken the team to new heights and has furthered the profile of the sport in the United States with Beckham’s mum, Sandra, stunned when she got to meet him and shake his hand.
Beckham shared several snaps on his Instagram of his mum shaking hands with Messi and then having a photo with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The ex-Manchester United star wrote the caption: “When your Mum meets Leo for the first time” on social media. Beckham’s son Romeo responded with crying face emojis while his Spice Girl wife Victoria commented with two love hearts.
A lot of the talk surrounding Messi is whether he’ll chose to pen a new deal with the MLS outfit. His a free agent once the season ends and talks have been ongoing for sometime as Inter Miami bid to keep one of football’s biggest names in Florida.

His head coach and former team-mate Javier Mascherano has remained coy when quizzed on Messi’s plans as he said: “I’m not going to talk about hypotheticals, and I’m not the one who has to break that news. I hope it happens soon, as I always say, because I think it’s great news not only for the club, but for MLS in general.
“If it happens, it will be great news for American soccer to be able to count on him for a while longer. It’s unique for the club’s history, but it would be very important for the country’s soccer. But I repeat: we have to wait for things to develop on their own and for those who need to announce it to be able to announce it.”
Earlier this week, Miami’s managing owner Jorge Mas told FDP Radio Miami that: “The stars are aligning for something great, for a beautiful future for the club and for Lionel. It’s solely his decision.”
“I expect that within 60-90 days we’ll have to determine all of this. My hope has always been — and everything we’re doing — is to see Messi play at our new stadium in 2026. Hopefully, that happens.”
If Messi does decide to stay with the franchise then he will help to usher in a new era. The team will not be returning to the Chase Stadium as the club is preparing to move to the $1billion Miami Freedom Park stadium from the 2026 season.
