LIVERPOOL 4-1 IPSWICH: Arne Slot was delighted with the work-rate of his side as they saw off Ipswich with ease at Anfield to remain six points clear at the top

Arne Slot hailed Mo Salah’s work-rate after Liverpool’s Egyptian star showed a different side to his game against Ipswich.

With the Reds 3-0 up and cruising at Anfield thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo, either side of a strike from Salah himself, the forward raced back into his own half to regain possession.

Within 30 seconds Trent Alexander-Arnold had crossed for Gakpo to make it 4-0, and Slot was delighted with what he saw.

“It’s nice to talk about this because mostly with Mo it’s about his contract or his goals!” said Slot. “But now it’s about his defensive work-rate.

“That stood out because it was a moment which we could all see, but if you look at all the times we lost the ball I saw a reaction from our players like that.”

The Reds brushed aside Ipswich to remain six points clear at the top of the table, and Slot hailed his side’s “dominant” efforts prior to their concession of Jacob Greaves’ late consolation.

“There’s been a few times in home games that we’ve conceded a goal at the start, but today is how we want to start games,” said Slot.

“We were aggressive, dominant, and for 85 minutes they hardly came in our half. They have a counter-attacking threat with the wingers they have, but we managed to control that so, so well because of the amount of work we put in.

“But in the end we’re disappointed that we conceded from a corner for the first time this season. But for 85 minutes it was almost a perfect performance.”

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna confirmed Welsh winger Wes Burns is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines with the knee injury he picked up in the first half.

“It’s not good, we’ve got our fingers crossed,” he said. “He’s on crutches and it looks like a serious one.”
