Liverpool are looking to bounce back after their first Premier League defeat of the season while the Reds have also been linked with one of the most exciting players in Europe

Liverpool’s perfect record in the Premier League came to an end against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Arne Slot’s side were aiming for six wins out of six only for Oliver Glasner’s Eagles to run out 2-1 winners at Selhurst Park.

The reigning Premier League champions were simply not at the races in a first half that should have seen Palace out sight. While Slot’s team improved in the second period, and almost looked like sealing a point thanks to a late Federico Chiesa strike, a 98th-minute winner earned the points for last season’s FA Cup winners.

Facing their first defeat of the season in such agonising fashion will no doubt hurt the Reds, with Arsenal’s late win at Newcastle on Sunday adding insult to injury. Liverpool are still top of the table but now only lead Mikel Arteta’s side by two points.

Liverpool will be looking to make it two wins from two in the Champions League on Tuesday when they face Turkish outfit Galatasaray, however. With transfer rumours for Marc Guehi and Bayern Munich star Michael Olise heating up and a very different mood gripping the Liverpool camp since the Palace defeat, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest news from Anfield.

Wayne Rooney’s Marc Guehi prediction

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney isn’t sure whether Guehi will end up at Liverpool. The Palace skipper was mere moments away from joining the Reds on transfer deadline day only for the move to collapse at the eleventh hour.

Rooney, however, doesn’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that the England centre-half will make a move to Anfield in January or in the summer.

“I think he’s a special player,” Rooney said of Guehi on his self-titled podcast. “He’s a good size, he’s not the tallest but he’s good in the air, he can play with both feet, he’s aggressive. I think he’ll be a really top player in the next few years. Will he be at Palace next year? I really doubt it.”

Asked where he thinks Guehi will end up, Rooney joked: “Definitely not Liverpool. No, listen, I think he’ll have options, not just in England, in Europe as well.

“I’ve just got a feeling Arsenal and Chelsea might come in and take Liverpool out of it. But Liverpool for me is the best city in the world, so if he does join that’s where he’ll be going, so just enjoy Liverpool. But I hope he doesn’t, because I think he’d improve them.”

Mood change in Liverpool camp

The Palace defeat has appeared to have affected the mood in the Red’s camp somewhat. Liverpool were put through their paces in training in their final preparations before flying to Turkey on Monday.

Slot led training and spoke briefly to his players before the session got underway. After a quick warm-up with running drills, the players used resistance bands and medicine balls. The group then headed over to the other side of the pitch and took part in a small-sided game.

However, an atmosphere usually punctuated with laughter and jokes seemed different, The mood at Liverpool’s Kirkby base appeared sombre and serious, underscoring that there’s work to be done.

Reds given Olise update

Liverpool have received a fresh update on the future of Bayern’s Olise. The Reds have previously shown interest in signing the French international and new development suggests that they might still be in the race to sign the ex-Palace winger.

Bundesliga expert Christian Falk has revealed in his CF Bayern Insider column that Liverpool are ‘watching’ Olise, with Manchester City also showing interest in the Frenchman. However, there are hints that the Bundesliga giants are keen to offer Olise a new contract to ward off interest from rival clubs

Bayern are reportedly looking around £87million if they were to part with their star player. Olise has scored four goals and provided an equal number of assists for Bayern in his first eight appearances this season.
