Liverpool head to West Ham on Saturday for the first of four final matches under Jurgen Klopp as Arne Slot closes in on replacing the German at the end of the season

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back and reignite their hopes of winning the Premier League when they travel down to face West Ham in the early Saturday kick-off.

The Reds have seen their title bid dented in recent weeks after losing two of their last three matches, including Wednesday’s Merseyside derby defeat against Everton. They currently sit third, three points behind leaders Arsenal and two adrift of second-place Manchester City, who boast a game in hand.

Away from on-pitch matters, the Reds are closing in on appointing their Jurgen Klopp replacement. Arne Slot is on the verge of becoming their new manager after Liverpool and Feyenoord verbally agreed a compensation package for the Dutchman to join the club at the end of the season.

Here is the latest news from Anfield.

Slot agreement

Liverpool have verbally agreed a compensation package with Feyenoord for Slot to replace Klopp next season, according to Mirror Sport.

Talks have accelerated over the past couple of days and Slot is on the verge of being announced. Only the finer details and the contract being signed separate the Dutchman from moving to Anfield. Feyenoord are consigned to losing him and and have identified FC Twente boss Joseph Oosting as a target to replace him.

Before Feyenoord played Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday night, he told ESPN: “I’d like to become the new Liverpool manager, my decision is clear, it’s no secret.

“Feyenoord and Liverpool are in talks to negotiate, I’m waiting to see what will come out of it. I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”

Klopp on Slot

Klopp has given the green light for Liverpool to appoint Slot as his successor.

The German confirmed back in January that he will leave the club in the summer after eight-and-a-half years in charge. With Slot looking set to become their new manager, Klopp was asked about the Dutchman before the Reds travelled down to face West Ham.

“I like a lot about it if he is the one who wants to take the job,” Klopp said. “I like the way his team play football, all the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy. I like that a lot – good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good.”

Ibe released

Former Liverpool wonderkid Jordon Ibe has been released by non-league side Ebbsfleet.

The 28-year-old joined the club back in October, but has been restricted to just a single first-team appearance. That came during a goalless draw against Oldham.

Ibe is one of eight who have not been offered a new deal and will depart Ebbsfleet this summer. Six stars remain under contract, while the Fleet have started talks with 12 others as they plan for their second straight season in the National League after staying up on the final day of the season.
