Premier League champions-elect Liverpool need just one more point to wrap up the title but many have suggested Arne Slot still needs to strengthen his squad next term

Liverpool’s title celebrations are on hold, but the transfer chat is already well underway. After convincing Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to stick around, the next target comes in the form of new additions.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is on his way, which could spell the end for Caoimhin Kelleher. If and when Trent Alexander-Arnold completes his expected move to Real Madrid, a new right-back to compete with Conor Bradley could also be en route.

There are other areas of intrigue, though. Left-back appears to be a priority, with Andy Robertson showing signs of fallibility this season, while Darwin Nunez could leave to free up space for a new forward.

On the pitch, Arne Slot’s team need just one more point to end the season as champions. That point could arrive as soon as Sunday, when Tottenham Hotspur come to Anfield.

We’ve got some updates in store for you, both in a transfer and on-field sense. Here are Mirror Football‘s latest lines from the red side of Merseyside.

Carragher makes transfer demands

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool need to add bodies in defence and midfield if they are to defend their title next season. “If you look at Liverpool this season – this is not the manager’s squad, it is Jurgen Klopp’s,” the pundit said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet,

“Arne Slot doesn’t trust the squad. When people talk about Liverpool at the end of the season, their style during the winter is not the same and is not consistent like the rest of the season. Slot plays the same players every week. We don’t know if that’s his way of play, but we will probably find out next season.

“If Ibrahima Konate or Virgil van Dijk got injured, who would come in at the back really? They have Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez, who is injury prone. Liverpool need another centre-back to really push Konate. The same also applies in central midfield with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.”

Palace send Reds message

Crystal Palace’s social media message after Wednesday night’s draw with Arsenal was a simple one. “You’re welcome Liverpool…,” the club’s official account wrote.

Palace twice trailed at the Emirates Stadium, but twice battled back. Ebere Eze volleyed home their first leveller in the first half, before Jean-Philippe Mateta came off the bench to score their second.

The result leaves Arsenal 12 points adrift of Liverpool, with the Gunners having just four games to play. Just one point from the remaining five games would see Liverpool crowned champions – not that they’ll have any plans to take things easy.

Szoboszlai gives his take on Slot and Klopp

Dominik Szoboszlai has given a different answer to Alexis Mac Allister when it comes to the differences between Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp. Both midfielders were among Klopp’s final signings, playing just one season under the German before Slot’s arrival.

While Mac Allister pointed to the new boss making things more “fresh”, Szoboszlai showed his appreciation for both. “I don’t compare them with each other,” the Hungarian told Sky Sports. “They are both unbelievable managers. Jurgen had a different style of playing football than the manager has now.

“So, that’s why football is beautiful. Everybody is different. Probably all the coaches in the whole world are working on something different than the others. I never compare my coaches between each other.”
