Liverpool’s busy summer window is gathering pace, with the Reds far more active than they were last year. Jeremie Frimpong has already arrived in a £30million deal from Bayer Leverkusen.

They are also closing in on a deal with Bournemouth for left-back Milos Kerkez. Club chiefs are hoping the biggest move of their window will be the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen.

The Reds saw an opening bid for the German playmaker rejected earlier in the week and have now returned with an improved, club-record offer. As talks with Leverkusen continue, Arne Slot is sounding out other targets.

With Caoimhin Kelleher having joined Brentford, the Reds are looking to add to their goalkeeping options. It appears that Slot is willing to go outside of the box to do that, with a Hungary Under-21 international emerging as a target.

Elsewhere, Slot is also keen to add to his options in defence, with Liverpool now joining a five-team chase for a Sporting Lisbon star. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Reds join five-team battle

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Sporting Lisbon star Ousmane Diomande. The Ivorian played a key role as Sporting won the Portuguese double this season, but is entering the final two years of his contract.

That has attracted a range of top sides, including Liverpool. According to A Bola, the Reds are battling Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich to secure the defender’s signature.

All five are said to be ‘very attentive’ to Diomande’s situation. Palace have made contact with Sporting over a potential deal, with the Portuguese side demanding a fee in the region of £50million.

Second summer signing close

Liverpool are closing in on their second signing of the summer window. Jeremie Frimpong completed his move to Anfield last week and it now appears that he will be joined by Hungary Under-21 international Armin Pecsi.

According to Nemzeti Sport, the Puskas Academy keeper has travelled to Merseyside to negotiate his move. He left Hungary’s U21 training camp to fly over to England, missing their game against Albania on Thursday night.

The deal is expected to be a club record one for Puskas Academy, who finished as runners-up in the Hungarian top-flight this season. The talks are advanced and a deal is expected to be announced next week at the latest.

Record bid submitted

Liverpool have submitted a fresh club-record bid for Florian Wirtz. The Reds saw a £109m bid for the 22-year-old rejected by Bayer Leverkusen last week and have now upped their offer.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are ready to pay £100m upfront for the 22-year-old, with another £13m in add-ons, taking the total package to £113m. That would be a new record for the Merseyside club.

Leverkusen have slapped a £126.4m price tag on Wirtz, though Liverpool are said to have ‘no intention’ of paying that much. The German side are keen to sell him this summer though and Wirtz has already travelled to England to look for houses.
