A London property that was previously on the market for a bargain £70,000 ended up selling at auction for just £52,000. Set in the coveted Pimlico area on Cumberland Street, the studio is inside a striking white building – but there’s a major snag.

At just nine square metres, the cramped quarters offer decidedly tight living arrangements. The floor plan measurements of 2.06m x 3.25m reveal it’s actually more confined than the Underground carriages at nearby Pimlico station.

Just two images were included in the property advert. They show a main room filled with a cushioned seating section, storage units and a wall-mounted TV.

A few steps lead to a minuscule kitchen space with a sink and cupboards, although it remains uncertain if there’s a cooker or hob included. One bedroom and a fitted shower are also listed but aren’t pictured.

The ‘flat’ sits on the ground floor of a five-storey terraced property, as reported by Luxury Property News. The listing, handled by Auction House London, originally said: “The property is situated in the highly sought out area of Westminster.

“The open spaces of Warwick Square are within easy reach. Transport links are provided by Pimlico underground station (Victoria line) and Victoria rail station.”

The listing has since been updated to confirm the property sold for £52,000. However, there’s another major hurdle.

It emerges the property lacks planning permission for residential use. Consequently, potential buyers might not have the chance to make significant changes to the property.

The listing further states: “We understand that the property does not currently have planning permission for residential use.

“Please refer to the legal pack for further information. Buyers should rely on their own enquiries.”
