A popular TikTok video has shared their secret recipe to get rid of the cloudy buildup and leave you with a sparking clean shower in just minutes using common household items

Nobody likes to shower in a grimy cubicle with limescale on the glass and clogging up the shower head.

Now a popular TikTok video has shared their secret recipe to get rid of the cloudy buildup and leave you with a sparking clean shower in just minutes. The video, posted by Connect Trade Cleaning and liked nearly 2000 times, offers the handy cleaning hack. The clip, which lasts 6 seconds, shows a before and after shot of a grimy glass shower door followed by a clip of the same door now gleaming with the recipe for their home-made cleaner using three household ingredients.

The secret recipe is simply one part vinegar, one part hot water and three squirts of dishwashing liquid to return your shower to a brilliant shine. Limescale can also build up in the shower head and can totally block the nozzles leading to loss of water flow or problems with pressure. While a soak in white vinegar can tackle the problem, there is a faster way to tackle these white crumbly deposits. Cleaning enthusiast Francesca, the founder of Thoroughly Modern Grandma, has previously recommended her fast and simple way of blitzing limescale in your shower head.

In order to restore your shower to its sparkling best and get rid of limescale buildup Francesca advises using citric acid as a faster way to clean, The Express reports. “Have you ever noticed how the holes in your shower head get clogged up?” she asked. “These can easily be cleaned by soaking your shower head in a solution of hot water and citric acid. Leave for around 10 minutes and then rinse.” However hardcore commercial cleaners like or bleach are not the right tools for this job as they are too powerful and might end up trashing your shower head rather than cleaning it.

In order to clean your shower head using citric acid all you need to do is boil a kettle, unscrew the shower head and submerge it in a solution of hot water with a few spoonfuls of citric acid crystals stirred in. Allow it to sit in this cleaning solution for 10 minutes, or longer if it’s really dirty – once it has soaked for long enough, rinse the fixture with cool tap water, dry it, and then reattach it to your shower.
