Don’t be a Bah Humbug and get into the festive mood early this year with a quick trip to one of the most ‘magical’ places on Earth. Plus, it’s less than two hours away from the UK

Have a fairytale Christmas with this ‘dreamy’ city break that’s less than two hours from the UK.

You might think it’s too early to start harping on about Xmas, but the cooler weather has arrived, Halloween is around the corner, and it’ll soon be time to unbox the tinsel and baubles. If you want to live the main character in a cheesy Hallmark film, we’ve found the perfect destination that will make you feel like you’ve stumbled across Santa’s grotto.

Montreux Noel attracts more than 400,000 visitors every December thanks to its acclaimed Christmas Markets and festive atmosphere. Located just an hour from Geneva, the Swiss town is the epitome of a winter wonderland, adorned with Xmas decorations and lights in every nook and cranny.

Travel lover Abena recently took to TikTok to show off the destination’s beauty – filled with snow-capped cabins offering comforting food and festive souvenirs, as well as a stunning light display. In fact, you’ll even be able to spot Santa flying through the air on his sleigh on an evening.

“Just a reminder that this is what Switzerland will look like in three months,” she captioned the post – describing Montreux as a ‘literal dream’. Travellers can also explore the real house of Father Christmas on the Rocher-de-Naye and soak up some history in the legendary Chillon Castle. Plus, you may finally experience that white Christmas you’ve always dreamed of.

Thousands of Brits flocked to the comments section in awe of the postcard picture town. “Suddenly, I need to be in Switzerland,” one user raved. Another agreed, commenting: “I want to experience Christmas in Switzerland,” while a third added: “I went a few years ago and it was so magical, if you get a chance, do it!”

Direct flights to Geneva are available from most major UK airports in December, including Manchester, Heathrow, Belfast, and Edinburgh – with prices as low as £41. Once in Geneva, you’ll need to catch an hour’s train or car ride to Montreux. Just make sure you bring your gloves and wooly hats!
