The tiny village has been swamped with tourists after a social media post went viral – with thousands of people saying they would love to visit the peaceful location in Devon

A “magical” little village where ponies roam cobbled streets and homes are thatched cottages is a “new bucket list destination” for tourists.

Imagine residing in a place where animals and humans coexist peacefully, roaming freely. That’s precisely the charm of the picturesque UK village of Belstone, located in Dartmoor, Devon. The Dartmoor ponies are a well-known sight, an integral part of the landscape, ambling around the National Park. It’s even more delightful to see them trotting around the beautiful village, complete with thatched cottages and a quaint pub for onlookers.

The official Belstone Parish Council website provides more insight into the village. It describes: “Nestling 1,000 feet up on the northern edge of Dartmoor, above the Skaigh Valley, where the river Taw tumbles over the rocks, lies a little haven of peace Belstone. “As is the outlook from Great Green, with its view east down the Skaigh Valley or South to the distinct hill of Cosdon (also known as Cawsand Beacon). Depending on the weather, the view can be stunning, dramatic or beautiful, with all-year-round appeal as a setting off point for walkers who wish to practise for Ten Tors or visit Irishman’s Wall and Nine Maidens Stone Circle.”

With only 250 inhabitants, this tight-knit community spans from toddlers to ponies. The website also highlights that the wandering ponies, sheep, and cattle provide excellent photo opportunities for visitors. It states: “As part of the National Park, cattle grids allow the sheep, cattle and ponies to roam safely within the village.”, reports the Express. “The animals, along with the old stocks, are a great attraction for visitors and a good photographic opportunity.”

One TikToker was blown away by her visit, and thousands have commented on the social media platform expressing their eagerness to visit. Sarah Hagan’s video, which has now racked up a whopping 3.4 million views, reveals she’s stumbled upon a quaint village where “wild ponies roam freely.” She further explained: “They have been known to roam freely here for 3,500 years.” The charming little village is now on the radar of many, with people eager to visit and soak in its allure. One TikTok enthusiast gushed: “New bucket list destination.”

Another user expressed their longing: “That’s my dream to live in such a village,”. A different TikTok fan simply stated: “Looks like heaven.” In a move that made headlines last year, Belstone Village pub The Tors caused a stir when it decided to rename a classic British meal. In a nod to “the amazing ladies who work the land” in the vicinity, the pub swapped out the traditional ‘Ploughman’s’ for ‘Ploughperson’s.’ Priced at £12.50, the dish offers a delectable mix of Devon blue cheese, Quickes mature cheddar, Coca-Cola ham, fresh salad, pickled onions, jail ale chutney, and sourdough bread.
