Women are going to great lengths to sidestep ‘period mishaps’, treating it as just part of life.

A survey of 1,000 women who menstruate revealed a staggering 81% have feared leaking during their period, and 65% have reported discomfort from their pads.
Consequently, a large 86% confessed they actively take measures to prevent ‘period mishaps’ such as avoiding light-coloured clothing and planning frequent loo breaks to check their pads.
The study also showed that 64% think it’s normal to change their behaviour to dodge leaks and pad unease.
Two-thirds attribute ‘pad discomfort’ to the constant sensation of wearing a pad, while nearly half often deal with their pads bunching up, and 53% find it hard to keep them in place.
This leads to feeling overheated or sweaty, prompting 44% to regularly adjust their pads, and 25% to walk or sit differently.
The research was conducted by Always to mark the launch of their FlexProtect range featuring SmartFoam technology. As part of their campaign the brand has produced a massive bounce pad at Westfield in London.
A spokesperson for the brand commented: “We want women to have reliable protection that makes them feel as comfortable as possible whilst on their period.”
The survey also found that 37% have specific outfits they reserve for their periods to lessen worries about leaks and pad discomfort, including choosing only dark colours and full-coverage knickers to secure the pad.
Additionally, 19% of participants frequently experience leaks during their menstrual cycle, with a third even scrapping social plans due to this issue.
To tackle the problem, about a quarter (23%) use multiple sanitary pads and a third (31%) steer clear of sitting on light-coloured furniture, while another third always have a change of underwear on hand.
An Always spokesperson, said: “By normalising the conversation, we hope to enable girls and women to feel confident in managing their periods with suitable solutions that offer the right protection.”
