A cleaning hack has gone viral on TikTok showing people how to spruce up their oven in “minutes” using just two simple ingredients that they probably have at home
There’s nothing worse than dealing with a grimy oven, especially after Christmas.
It’s only natural for the appliance to accumulate dirt and grease after days of festive cooking. From roasting the turkey to preparing the sides and baking all those scrumptious desserts, it’s safe to say our ovens have been thoroughly used.
But if the thought of hours of scrubbing is getting you down, there might be a solution. A cleaning hack has gone viral on TikTok, promising to freshen up your oven in “minutes.”
A video shared by Kezban Sarilmaz reveals an “easy” method involving just a few basic ingredients. Apparently, filling a tray with water, lemon and a bit of baking soda and placing it in the oven can make it look brand new.
If your oven has the drop symbol setting, she recommends using this. If not, activate the top and bottom programme and set it to high heat.
Leave it on for 20 minutes, then let it cool down. Wiping the inside with a damp cloth should easily remove all the grime and grease, eliminating the need for intense scrubbing.
She claims it leaves the oven “nice and clean”, and also helps eliminate unpleasant odours. It seems like a super quick and easy cleaning solution.
The video has racked up over 300,000 views since being posted, and viewers were quick to comment. While some doubted the effectiveness of the ingredients, others shared their success stories.
One social media user commented: “I’m glad I trusted you and not those comments because, guess what? It worked. So thank you very much.”
Another voiced their appreciation, saying: “Thank you darling. I hate cleaning the oven. I will try this.”
Meanwhile, a third chimed in with: “Wow, you already have a clean oven. Nice hack!”
Experts in the field insist that a concoction of lemon and baking soda can work to clean ovens well. Dust your crusty cooker with the baking soda first, then drizzle over some lemon juice until it’s fizzing away like a science project.
The powerful punch of citric acid slices through the grime, while the trusty baking soda mops up all the mess. Just give it a wipe with a soggy cloth, and it should come up sparkling.
You can also pop a bowl of water and lemon slices in the oven and cook it on a low heat. This will get the oven nice and steamy, and also softens the grease even more, making your scrubbing sessions shorter.
If you’re worried about using chemicals, this is a good option, as both lemon and baking soda work as natural cleaning agents.
