Manchester City youngster Jacob Wright has made it clear he would like to leave the Etihad this summer. The teenager has headed out on loan to further his development and is keen on remaining with Norwich, whom he joined in January.

Wright’s opportunities under Pep Guardiola have been few and far between, but the Catalan didn’t want the 19-year-old to initially leave Manchester. His only minutes came away to Spurs in the Carabao Cup in October, but Wright was originally willing to stay put.

In January though the midfielder was keen to leave City to pursue regular game time and several Championship clubs were keen. Swansea registered their interest but Wright ultimately headed to Carrow Road and is now keen to become a Norwich player on a permanent basis.

He has featured in four of the last six matches for the Canaries as they look to cling onto their promotion hopes with a late push into the play-offs. Despite their dip in form Wright has made it clear that he would like to remain in Norwich.

He told told the Pink Un: “Yes, 100 per cent. I’m really starting to build something nice at the club. I’m enjoying it. It’s a good family club. I’m really enjoying the way they play. Hopefully, we can get some better results next season if I am to stay. I’d definitely like to stay, hopefully.

“I’m really enjoying it and learning a lot game by game. I’m working as hard as I can in training every day. I’m pushing to try and get in the starting XI week to week. I feel like I’m improving as a player, both on and off the pitch. I’m really enjoying it.”

Wright had previously told the MEN back in October that Guardiola’s desire to keep him in Manchester was enough to turn his head. However the teen was playing in a highly competitive area in the squad and whilst he had claimed he would stay for the season, that didn’t turn out to be the case.

Among the biggest youth success stories this season on the blue side of Manchester have been James McAtee. He has previously gone on loan to the likes of Sheffield United but his minutes have gradually increased under Guardiola and he scored an FA Cup hat-trick against Salford.

Nico O’Reilly has also impressed and he started in Sunday’s Manchester derby stalemate after an outstanding showing in the FA Cup last eight win at Bournemouth recently. City are set for a summer of mass change following a huge drop off this season. It has already been confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne will leave as a number of their big names face uncertain futures.
