A foodie has shared his recipe for a giant roast potato, and it’s safe to say people are drooling over the unusual creation – but some are put off by his choice of toppings

The humble potato has been taken to new heights by a culinary expert – who’s left food lovers in awe with his colossal roastie creation.

Forget your standard roasties or a fluffy jacket potato; this inventive chef has crafted something that’s causing quite the stir online. The foodie sensation and TikTok star @mealswithmax recently posted a video that’s got everyone talking – and salivating.

He introduces his masterpiece by saying: “I’m sure you’ve all had a jacket potato, but have you had a giant roast potato? It’s basically like a jacket potato but without the skin. So it’s essentially a roast potato, but just a massive one.” In the clip, he reveals the surprisingly simple method behind the dish, starting with boiling the potato alongside aromatic herbs like rosemary, thyme and garlic for a brief 10 minutes.

Next, he advises: “Drain it, let it steam, dry and give it a little shake to ruffle up the edges,” before anointing it with salt and oil and popping it into the air fryer to achieve that irresistible crunch. “Whack it into the air fryer or the oven for about half an hour or so at 200 degrees,” he said, before revealing the perfectly cooked potato with its golden and crispy exterior.

To give it a festive twist, Max whipped up some pigs in blankets and smothered the potato in butter and cheese, topping it off with the succulent sausages. “As you can see, the bottom’s nice and crispy, just like a roast potato. Sprinkle on some cheese, a dash of salt, pepper and garlic seasoning, add the pigs in blankets, a drizzle of honey followed by some Rosemary, thyme, and a dollop of gravy,” he concluded as he dug into the tantalising dish.

One admirer remarked: “You’ve created something special my man,” while another confessed: “My mouth is literally watering.” However, not everyone was sold on his choice of toppings. One lady expressed: “I loved this until you added cheese…. WITH GRAVY,” and another echoed: “HONEY? GRAVY??” accompanied by a shocked emoji.
