People divided over man’s controversial method of stopping people walking on his lawn

A man with a large front lawn has gone to extreme lengths to prevent people from trampling over his grass – but not everyone is pleased with his method.

Thomas Lyons, known as @tgunz81 on TikTok, shared a video of people walking across his lawn, only for them to be drenched by an automatic sprinkler that he had set up to deter trespassers. In a subsequent video, Thomas revealed that an alarm also sounds when the sprinkler is activated, warning people not to step on his grass.

The initial video has garnered nearly 40 million views, while two follow-up clips have amassed a combined total of 3.6 million views. However, Thomas’ unique approach to keeping trespassers off his lawn has sparked a debate among viewers – with some labelling him “mean”, and others arguing that he has every right to use his property as he sees fit.

One person commented: “You’re all mad for no reason. This is their yard. Walking on it can kill the grass and there are sidewalks for a reason.” Yet another disagreed, stating: “Cutting across the grass has saved me from missing the bus many times. People cut because it is always faster and even 30 seconds can make a difference.”

A third posted: “I love this level of pettiness. It’s your lawn, so do as you wish.” And someone else said: “It’s just kids walking home from school.”

Other commenters were simply taken aback by the “rude” behaviour of those trampling on his lawn, with many expressing their upbringing taught them to respect other people’s property. One person remarked: “I don’t understand. I was raised to never walk in someone’s yard, especially a stranger’s.”

Another added: “I have always felt like it was disrespectful to walk on people’s grass.” A third chimed in: “I was raised to never walk on people’s lawns. How are these kids just casually doing that? “.
