Manchester United fans have produced a banner urging Marcus Rashford to move on after the forward, who has been overlooked for selection, hinted he was looking to leave the club
Manchester United fans at Tottenham have made their feelings clear regarding Marcus Rashford as they displayed a banner that read: “Excuses. Ta ra Marcus”.
The forward was left out of the matchday squad for the second time in the space of five days as the Red Devils took part in their Carabao Cup semi-final in north London. Rashford has seen his conduct and attitude called out by Ruben Amorim.
He’s continued to underwhelm with his performances and in a recent interview opened the door to a move away, citing the desire to experience a “new challenge and the next steps”.
The travelling faithful from Manchester appear to have expressed a willingness for the academy graduate move on. Rashford has looked a shadow of the player who scored 30 times in the 2022/23 season despite earning huge sums.
The banner portrayed in the away end is thought to be a nod to the famous banner that was unveiled by a fan in 1989, hinting that Sir Alex Ferguson’s days as manager were up. It read: “Three years of excuses and it’s still crap. Ta Ra Fergie”.
Amorim said prior to kick-off at Tottenham that Rashford was left out purely as a result of selection calls – just days after the Englishman was overlooked for the Manchester derby on Sunday.
Shortly after that snub Rashford said: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.
“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
Amorim said in response to those comments: “We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple, and we will try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past. This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
