Manchester United fell to a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Wolves on Sunday – but that didn’t stop fans from speculating after seeing Ruben Amorim in conversation with a potential transfer target

Eagle-eyed Manchester United fans have taken to social media in a frenzy after Ruben Amorim was seen in conversation with summer transfer target Matheus Cunha during Sunday’s match against Wolves.

The Red Devils endured another difficult afternoon at Old Trafford as Pablo Sarabia struck a second half winner to ensure the visitors would move level with Amorim’s beleaguered side in the Premier League table on 38 points.

But fans have brushed off the disappointing result after Amorim was seen with his arm around Cunha – a player who has been heavily linked with a transfer to United in recent weeks.

A number of United supporters were quick to share their thoughts on social media, with some saying that Amorim was ‘tapping up’ the Brazil star. One mischievously wrote on X: “Amorim’s literally tapping him up.”

Other people also picked up on the interaction, with one social media user writing: “Look how Amorim speeds up to catch up with Cunha and pats him on the head. You can tell he wants him so badly.”

Another insisted that versatile forward was nailed on to be joining, saying: “He is replacing Alejandro Garnacho in our starting line-up next season.”

Cunha has established himself as a pivotal player for Wolves during his time at Molineux and was heavily linked with a move away in January before signing a new contract. It’s thought that said deal includes a £62.5million release clause, though, with United among the clubs considering signing him at the end of the season.

While a move for Cunha could be on Amorim’s agenda soon, he first had to front up after another poor result. When he was asked if it was once again a case of one step forward two steps back for United after their thrilling triumph in the Europa League quarter-finals in midweek, he responded: “This season is going to end like this so we need to take the positives and work on what we need to improve. We have to look at everything, our squad, what we have to do in the market.

“We will see. We talk every day about next season and with time we will get what we need to improve the team.”
