Manchester United travel to rivals Manchester City on Sunday hoping to grab a second straight win against Pep Guardiola’s side, who are struggling for confidence after a slow start to the season

Manchester United have a chance to capitalise on their momentum by grabbing a second consecutive win in their derby clash against rivals Manchester City this weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s men went into the international break with a hard-earned 3-2 win at home to Burnley but now face a tough test away at the Etihad – though Pep Guardiola’s men have shown they have vulnerabilities too.

City have lost two of their first three games this season and are under pressure going into this game, which they cannot afford to lose if they want to keep pace with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

United won this fixture 2-1 away from home last season – which was his second victory against Guardiola in 2024-25 – so Amorim will be fairly confident of getting a result.

Sean Dyche tipped to replace Ruben Amorim

Amorim will certainly be under pressure if he continues to pick up poor results this season, with some pundits claiming he should be axed after guiding the team to a 15th placed finish last season.

United only have one win under the Portuguese boss in 2025-26 and the club’s higher-ups will be expecting him to bring in more positive results in due course.

Should Amorim be sacked in the future, there would be a number of top managers linked with the role – including ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, who has constantly been rumoured to be a contender in recent years.

But former Burnley, Southampton and QPR star Charlie Austin has offered a more left-field option and tipped his ex-Clarets boss Sean Dyche for the role. He said that Zidane would be his No 1 pick, but if he was not available he’d appoint Dyche because he would give the team “structure”.

“I think he’s got to go, if it’s my decision, I’m going after Zinedine Zidane,” he said. “Ultimately, there are a different set of managers that you’ve got to be looking at, because the situation Manchester United are in, I would take Zidane but is he the right man for the job and how we see them, probably not.

“In my honest opinion, you have to look at the job Sean Dyche did at Burnley, what he did at Everton,” Austin added. “For me, he stabilised the club, at least he’s going to put structure in there.

“Zidane is the top of the tree for me, but what the club needs now is structure because that is something they do not have. I know Manchester United fans will look at me saying, ‘he said Sean Dyche’, no, they need structure [and] that is a man who will come in and make the team a lot better than what we are all seeing.”

Onana hails Trabzonspor welcome

Amorim knows he won’t have Onana in his squad this weekend after the Cameroonian shot-stopper was granted a loan move to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, with no loan fee or obligation to buy included in the deal.

United signed young keeper Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day and he is now expected to be the club’s new No 1.

Onana came under huge pressure during his time at Old Trafford after making a succession of mistakes, including a handful during the team’s humiliating Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby this season.

He appeared to take a swipe at United after being welcomed in by hordes of Trabzonspor fans this week, admitting he had “never felt so much love from people around me”.

“I am very happy. I can say that I am very happy,” Onana told local outlet 61 Saat. I am starting a new project, a new adventure for me, I am very happy to be here.

“This is a feeling that makes me so happy. I’ve never felt so much love from people around me.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be made to feel at home from the very first moment. I want to start working as soon as possible and reciprocate that love by making them happy on the field.”

Tiger Woods would be “brilliant” as United owner

United fans have been crying out for a change in ownership for years after being left seething over the Glazers’ running of the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has since come in after investing around £1.3bn to give himself a minority stake in United, but he is yet to convince supporters he can bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

While the Glazers haven’t been popular in Manchester, a number of American-based businessman have had success investing in football club after actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took Wrexham from non league to the Championship.

Birmingham are also having a resurgence since NFL superstar Tom Brady took them over, helping the club return to the Championship.

Golf legend Woods has been tipped to get involved in a similar football takeover by former Premier League star Matt Jansen, who played for Blackburn, urging him to invest at United.

Fellow former Rovers star Brad Friedel agreed that Woods would be a great asset to United if he decided to go down the ownership route, but urged him to snub United and instead join his former club Liverpool.

“I saw Matt Jansen say he’d like Tiger Woods to take over Man United,” the American told Mr-gamble.com. “I would prefer he does not go to Old Trafford. But it would be brilliant for the Premier League if he did. Go to Liverpool instead, Tiger!”
