Man Utd player ratings vs Liverpool as two 8/10 stars shine for Ruben Amorim

LIVERPOOL 1-2 MAN UTD: Ruben Amorim’s men pulled off a stunning victory at Anfield, finally giving the Red Devils manager back-to-back wins in the Premier League

Manchester United ended their nine-year wait for a victory at Anfield thanks Harry Maguire’s late winner. Bryan Mbeumo’s early goal was cancelled out by Liverpool star Cody Gakpo’s strike, only for Maguire to head home in the dying embers and give Ruben Amorim back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time.

It was a stunning start from United, as Mbeumo put them in the lead after just 63 seconds. The forward was played through by Amad, with Bruno Fernandes having picked up a loose ball in midfield.

Mbeumo slotted under Giorgi Mamardashvili and made it 1-0 in front of the Kop. The Red Devils nearly doubled their lead when Fernandes hit the post after good work from Matheus Cunha.

The second half was more nip and tuck. Amorim rang in the changes, as his side attempted to become the first United team to win at Anfield since 2016 – 10 meetings and six managers ago – and Maguire’s header from a superb volleyed pass by Fernandes clinched it.

Starting XI

Senne Lammens 7.5 – Made a crucial save to deny Alexander Isak. Looks confident.

Matthijs de Ligt 6.5 – Having his best spell since joining the Red Devils but couldn’t block Gakpo – who Maguire was initially marking – from scoring.

Harry Maguire 7 – Largely robust but was dragged out of position for Gakpo’s goal. Then popped up with a huge moment.

Luke Shaw 6 – Kept Mo Salah largely quiet.

Amad 7 – A lovely assist and plenty of defensive duties afterwards. Unfortunate with his yellow card after a good sliding tackle.

Casemiro 6 – Rightly booked for a foul on Salah. Subbed off with Amad before the hour mark.

Bruno Fernandes 8 – Lively from minute one, although he should’ve scored in the first half. His assist was excellent.

Diogo Dalot 6 – Vulnerable at times but helped Shaw enough. Admittedly playing on his wrong side.

Bryan Mbeumo 8 – Took his goal with ice in his veins. Dispossed for the equaliser.

Matheus Cunha 6.5 – Hassled and did excellently to set Fernandes up for his chance.

Mason Mount 6 – Quietly went about his work.
