Manchester United have launched a new bid for Bryan Mbeumo amid interest from Tottenham and the Red Devils could have a secret weapon to help them seal the deal. Mbeumo starred for Brentford last season, netting 20 Premier League goals as he stepped up and helped fill the void left by Ivan Toney’s move to Al-Ahli.

His exploits have attracted attention from a number of clubs, with United and Spurs leading the way. United submitted an improved offer of more than £60million for Mbeumo earlier this week, having seen a bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons already rejected by Brentford.

And the Athletic are now reporting that United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been in contact with Mbeumo about joining the club. The pair are international teammates for Cameroon and are said to have ‘spoken about linking up’ under Ruben Amorim.

However, Tottenham have appointed Thomas Frank as their new manager and Mbeumo thrived under the Dane at Brentford. Mbeumo has also backed Frank to be a huge success at Spurs, telling Sky Sports earlier this month: “It (speculation) is a bit new for me I would say!

“I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it. It’s been my best season so far in the Premier League. And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we’ve been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it’s been a fantastic season.

“He [Frank] has done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well.

“He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I’m sure he’s going to do well.

“I think he knows everything. He’s really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. I think he’s been fantastic for Brentford.

“I think he’s going to have some time to adapt, obviously. [ Champions League ] games, more expectations, as you said, but I’m sure he’s going to do well.

“He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group. And that’s why we’ve been playing so well.

“It’s big shoes to fill. I think, (Frank had) seven years as a head coach. So, obviously it’s going to be changing, but let’s see.”
