Marcus Rashford has no plans to leave Manchester United for the Saudi Pro League but his club are still thought to be open to offers if specific conditions are met

Manchester United remain open to offers for Marcus Rashford despite the forward’s reluctance to move to the Saudi Pro League, it has been claimed.

England forward Rashford has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, though head coach Ruben Amorim hasn’t ruled out reintegrating the 27-year-old fully after recalling him to the matchday squad against Newcastle. The player himself is under contract until 2028, and could yet have a future at Old Trafford despite indicating he was ready for a fresh challenge.

The first offers appear to have come from Saudi Arabia, with reports of contract offers which could see Rashford double his pay packet – currently north of £300,000 per week – to pocket more than £35million per year. However, he is understood to have no plans to move to the gulf state.

United, for their part, are understood to be well aware of the singnificance of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. This could play a part in their response to any January interest in their academy graduate… if more offers come in, that is.

According to The Mail, a permanent Rashford exit is still being considered by United as they keep PSR compliance in mind. They could also sanction a loan exit for the forward, if potential suitors are prepared to pay a loan fee and cover the bulk of his not-insignificant wages.

United have approved loans for their high earners in the past, with Jadon Sancho a prime example. The winger finished last season at Borussia Dortmund before joining Chelsea on a season-long loan this term, with a permanent switch to the London club anticipated in the summer.

Sancho will be free to join Chelsea for a knock-down fee – somewhere between £20-25m – if the Bllues finish 14th or higher in the league. Enzo Maresca’s side are on course to finish several places higher than that, and currently sit fourth despite losing to Ipswich last time out.

United boss Ruben Amorim was asked about Rashford after recalling him to the bench against Newcastle, having left him out entirely for a number of previous matches. “Every player on the bench is close to going on the pitch,” he said, despite not turning to the star on that occasion.

Amorim’s side conceded twice in the opening 20 minutes against Eddie Howe’s men, with Joshua Zirkzee sacrificed before half-time. Summer signing Zirkzee has also been linked with a January exit, but Amorim defended his decision to withdraw the former Bologna man during the first half.

“That is really simple when the game starts and finishes for people to address,” Amorim said. “The idea was different. It was a real tough moment for Josh [Zirkzee] and I felt that I had to do something in that moment.

“I don’t like to do that to my players. In that moment the team was suffering and I made the decision thinking of the team. I am really sorry for Josh.”
