Manchester United face FC Twente in the first Europa League match of 2024/25 and Toby Collyer could be included in the squad that welcomes the Dutch side to Old Trafford on Wednesday

Manchester United are poised to include Toby Collyer could be involved in the club’s Europa League clash against FC Twente.

The 20-year-old has made three first team appearances already this season and was absent from the under-21 side that faced Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening. Fellow youngsters Harry Amass and Ethan Wheatley, who have also spent time with the first team under Erik ten Hag, both completed the game to help United win following a penalty shootout after a dramatic 3-3 draw at the Eco-Power Stadium.

Collyer featured earlier in the competition, captaining the side to a win over Barnsely. The midfielder went on to face the Tykes again for United’s first team in the Carabao Cup and has also featured against Liverpool in the Premier League, and Manchester City in the Community Shield. He was not involved against Crystal Palace this past weekend however.

The youngster has not been named in United’s squad for the Europa League, unlike teammate Amass, but could still be named on the club’s B-list. That can be adjusted in advance of each fixture and is reserved for club-trained players who have been with the team for a minimum of two years.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are expected to be named on that list having not been included in the initial squad required by UEFA ahead of the competition. United’s B-list has yet to be released ahead of the game against FC Twente.

The likes of Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia and Leny Yoro all remain injured for the clash. Ramus Hojlund and Mason Mount will continue their return to the squad after being involved in the draw with Crystal Palace.

With United in the midst of a busy spell of fixtures across multiple competitions, Red Devills boss Ten Hag admitted he would like more players to make his selection from. “We need a squad, more than 11, to line up,” he said in his press conferece on Tuesday.

“We need more players. And then, from game to game, we will pick a team. But you can’t address it, this is the best XI in this moment, and we will see. And, of course, form is part of it. Tactics is also part of it. But definitely, the management of the load of the players is definitely part of it.”
