Victor Lindelof was forced to rush away from Old Trafford at half-time of Manchester United’s Europa League comeback with Lyon and the reason has now been revealed
Victor Lindelof was forced to leave Manchester United’s game with Lyon after his son picked up a serious head injury. The Swedish defender was named on the bench vs the French side in the Europa League.
But he left the stadium at half-time. And speaking after the game, boss Ruben Amorim revealed that he had to leave the stadium due to a ‘personal reasons’.
With Lindelof having return to contention for the weekend’s clash with Wolves, it has now been confirmed why he needed to rush away, with his son having been involved in an accident that saw him pick up a serious injury.
Lindelof’s wife Maja said: “An hour before the [Lyon] game started, our babysitter called and said they were in an ambulance on the way to hospital.
“My youngest son Francis had split his entire head open. He had been chasing his big brother Ted Louie at home, and fallen into our glass staircase.
“His forehead was in two parts. He was in hospital both Thursday and Friday. He had to have plastic surgery to put his forehead back together. He was put under anaesthetic.
“It is the first time I have experienced something like this happening with one of my children. It was incredibly unpleasant, and not something I want to experience again.
“The operation went well, and Francis is back on track. He is a Viking, and back to normal. Everyone was so worried, but he continues his life as if nothing has happened.
“The doctors say he will have a big scar on his forehead. But never mind – I’m just happy that it went so well.”

Lindelof was not the only one to have left Old Trafford midway through United’s Europa League clash with Lyon. Fellow defender Noussair Mazraoui also left the stadium having initially been named in the starting line-up.
Amorim suggested that the Moroccan also had a personal situation that he needed to rush away for – albeit that has been kept under wraps. But he too returned to the starting line-up in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves at the weekend.
Man United are back in action this coming weekend as they travel to Bournemouth. The Red Devils will then turn their attentions back to European action next Thursday with their Europa League semi-final clash with Spanish side Real Sociedad.
