Manchester United could be busy with both incomings and outgoings in the January transfer window, with new manager Ruben Amorim keen to revamp his struggling squad
Manchester United are languishing 14th in the Premier League and there could be a number of personnel changes during the upcoming January transfer window.
New manager Ruben Amorim will be keen to strengthen his squad, while several fringe players could find themselves departing Old Trafford next month. However, United are set to host Newcastle before the window officially opens.
The Red Devils will take on Newcastle on Monday and will be desperate to end a run of three straight defeats across all competitions, having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham before losing to Bournemouth and Wolves.
With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the biggest transfer stories from Old Trafford…
Juventus not interested in Rashford
Marcus Rashford is expected to leave United after he was left out of the last four matchday squads by Amorim, but Juventus are not interested in his services.
According to the Sun, Juventus boss Thiago Motta is ‘not keen’ on signing Rashford and would instead prefer to bring Joshua Zirkzee back to Italy. Motta managed Zirkzee at Bologna last season and the Dutchman has struggled to make much of an impact since moving to Old Trafford.
The report states that Motta is confident he can help Zirkzee ‘flourish as a player’, but United are unwilling to ‘suffer a financial hit on a player so soon’ after they forked out £36.5million to sign him.
New goalkeeper eyed
According to the Telegraph, United have sent scouts to watch goalkeeper Senne Lammens in action for Royal Antwerp ahead of a potential move.
The report states that United are considering their long-term options in between the sticks and Lammens has emerged as a target. Both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have made errors this season and United are looking to bring in more competition.
Lammens is also said to be attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund, having cemented himself as Antwerp’s first-choice goalkeeper this season after acting as backup to Jean Butez during the previous campaign.
Six new signings tipped
Micah Richards believes United will not make many signings next month, but he is expecting the Red Devils to bring in “five or six” new faces next summer.
“I don’t think he [Amorim] is going to get the players that he wants in January,” Richards said on The Rest Is Football podcast. “But I think in the summer we’re going to see five or six players come in.
“I was a little bit disappointed in the showing, and that’s not the manager. Obviously the manager needs time to implement his style, but it was almost like a fizzy drink I expected so much, they started so well, then it just fizzled out a little bit.”
