Marcus Rashford could leave Manchester United this month and a switch to Italy could be on the cards with another of the club’s forwards also attracting Serie A attention

Manchester United took a step in the right direction with their draw at Liverpool but major work is still needed.

The Red Devils battled to a 2-2 draw as Ruben Amorim ‘s side ended a four-game losing streak at Anfield. The New Year means that the new man in the dugout can look to address some of the problems in his squad, albeit he’s working with limited funds.

A number of the summer signings haven’t delivered and already there is talk over some of their futures at Old Trafford. Amorim’s 3-4-3 system requires specific skillsets and the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss may eye wing-backs as well as a goalscorer in the final third.

Here’s the latest from Manchester.

Zirkzee’s uncertain future

Amorim has refused to rule out the possibility of Joshua Zirkzee leaving Manchester in January – just six months after he joined the club. The Dutchman was signed in the summer from Bologna for £36million and scored on his debut in the opening game of the season, but has struggled since.

Already questions are being asked over his future with Juventus reportedly keen on signing the former Bologna man. They’re now led by Thiago Motta, was previously worked effectively with Zirkzee in Serie A, and they’re reportedly lining up a bid this month.

Amorim has made it clear he wants to retain Zirkzee, but couldn’t rule out his exit. “I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he’s trying in training but we don’t know,” he said. “The window is open and we will see what happens. We just need to focus on training and to take this for the other games. It’s just one point so let’s focus on the performance for the next games.”

Juve open to swap

On the topic of Juventus – there is now talk of them offering to swap Dusan Vlahovic for Zirkzee, according to talkSPORT. The Serbian has been at the Italian giants since 2022 following a prolific period at Fiorentina.

He was once heavily linked with Arsenal but has remained in Serie A. That could come to an end though with the Manchester outfit potentially being offered the opportunity to land Vlahovic.

The striker has hit double figures in each of his two full seasons with Juventus and already this season he’s found the back of the net on 12 occasions.

Rashford’s Italian option

AC Milan have emerged as a suitor for the United forward Marcus Rashford, who is heavily linked with the exit door at Old Trafford. He hasn’t played for weeks after being out in the cold for several games under Amorim.

Rashford himself has claimed he’s ready for a “new challenge” and Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the Italian giants are keen on the Englishman. They add however that there could be several obstacles in a potential move.

It is understood that a loan move to Milan is more likely, given the salary Rashford earns in Manchester. The San Siro outfit would not be able to match his pay packet and they may look to bring him in temporarily, complimenting the likes of Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham.
