The study revealed the most common facial and body hair trends in the UK, as well as the leading hair products and grooming tools used by men.

Leicester has been named the UK’s top city for moustaches, according to a new poll, with London and Leeds taking the lead in the chest hair department. A survey of 2,000 blokes has resulted in a detailed map of Britain’s head and body hair trends, revealing that one in five Londoners favour a full beard.

Meanwhile, if you’re after a well-groomed goatee, the Northwest and Wales are your best bet, while stubble is most popular in the West Midlands. As for hairstyles, buzz cuts, clean shaven heads and crew cuts topped the list, followed by side partings and high skin fade blends.

The study revealed that three out of five men with facial hair prefer to style it themselves rather than seeking professional help. Four in ten use an electric trimmer – a sacred tool – as a whopping 78 per cent refusing to share theirs.

However, a third admit they find it confusing when it comes to choosing the right tool for the job, according to data from OnePoll.com. As such, those who do visit a barber for a trim, 32 per cent do so on a weekly basis.

Commissioned by grooming brand REMINGTON, the study revealed that 40 per cent of men view maintaining facial hair as most important, with a quarter suggesting that styling it makes them more attractive to a partner or potential love interest.

For this reason, 14 per cent keep their facial hair because their partner prefers it or to stand out from the crowd. Other reasons included it suiting their look, convenience and boosting confidence.

Among some of the top gadgets owned by men were: nose or ear trimmers, beard shaping tools, and eyebrow trimmers. Other popular grooming products include aftershave, shaving cream or gel, and moisturiser.

A spokesperson for REMINGTON, makers of the Limitless X X9 said: “Having a fresh trim is really important when it comes to confidence. Whether you’re rocking a monster moustache or some devastating sideburns, facial hair also plays a big role.

“And while men traditionally are less out-there with their clothing choices, many make a powerful statement with the way they wear their hair, be it facial or on top of the head.

“It’s brilliant to see more people feeling confident about taking grooming into their own hands. This often comes from having the right device. Feeling fresh can make all the difference whether it’s first impressions, a big occasion or even meeting someone new.”
