There are just days remaining for Manchester United and Marcus Rashford to arrange the forward’s exit and Barcelona still have issues holding up their move for the wantaway star
Marcus Rashford is holding out for a move to Barcelona in the remaining days of the transfer window, but the Catalan club will need to sell two players to facilitate his move.
The Manchester United forward admitted his desire to leave Old Trafford last month and his representatives have engaged in talks with Barca officials. But a move has yet to come to fruition for Rashford, who has also drawn interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
The 27-year-old is also said to have rejected offers, including from Tottenham, as he hopes to make a move to Camp Nou. Rashford’s significant salary has proven problematic for suitors, as it ensures a high-cost loan deal.
La Liga squad cost limits mean that Barca will need to sell players to afford to cover a deal for Rashford. The Guardian reports that Hansi Flick’s side are willing, in priniciple, to cover Rashford’s salary but will need to sell one or two players to do so.
Unless Barca can facilitate exits, Rashford is set to remain with United for the remainder of the season. That is despite Rashford only making one Ruben Amorim squad since his last appearance for the club on December 12.
United’s head coach has criticised Rashford’s training performances in recent weeks, and even suggested he would play his goalkeeping coach ahead of the forward. Speaking ahead of the Red Devil’s Europa League win, Amorim suggested it was possible for Rashford to benefit the team.
“You can look at our team and imagine the profile of the players,” he said. “Now imagine a talent like Rashford. Our team should be so much better with Rashford. But he has to change. If he changes, we are more than welcome to put in a talent like Rashford. And we need it.”
Amorim’s comments on Rashford’s training ground performances have seen the United ace criticised. Former captain and outspoken pundit Roy Keane is aghast at Rashford’s failure to apply himself well in training, regardless of whether he is staying a the club.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane said: “I can’t get involved in the conversation, I still can’t understand at any level. Whatever’s going on with players leaving, months left on contracts, a player who doesn’t train properly…I don’t understand it.
“You might as well leave me out of this conversation. Especially if you think he wants to move, which is more of a reason to train properly so when you go to a new club you’re up to speed and when you leave the club at least you showed a decent attitude. He must be ashamed.”
