Aston Villa are set to seal a deal to land Marcus Rashford on loan for the remainder of the campaign and will pay the bulk of the forward’s £325,000-a-week wages

Marcus Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United to Aston Villa has been agreed and could be confirmed as soon as tonight.

Rashford has not played for United since December 15, exiled from their last 12 games after boss Ruben Amorim criticised his poor training performances and said the forward must change.

The 27-year-old has been handed an escape from his United plight by Villa, who have agreed to take Rashford on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Villa will pay a minimum of 75 per cent of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages, with that figure potentially rising to 90 per cent, depending on performance-related bonuses.

Those performance-related bonuses are understood to focus on appearances and goals, with Rashford having found the net just seven times this season in 24 appearances.

Rashford, who also fell out with Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag over his perceived poor professionalism and training performances, is desperate to relaunch his career elsewhere.

United host Crystal Palace at 2pm today and there will be no announcement of Rashford’s switch before then, although with all parties in agreement over the deal, it could be confirmed later tonight.

He lost his England place on the back of his poor form for United and missed out on Euro 2024, and is hopeful his switch to Villa can give him the platform to return to the international fold.

Villa moved for Rashford after their forward Jhon Duran joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr in a £71million deal, leaving them light on personnel up front.

Unai Emery’s side have also rejected a £60m bid from Arsenal for their striker Ollie Watkins, with Villa said be determined to hold on to the England star.
