Mary Berry’s simple flapjack recipe only requires four ingredients, meaning you can enjoy the sweet treats in next-to-no-time, and you may already have the items in your cupboard

There’s nothing quite like a scrumptious snack, especially when it’s homemade – and Mary Berry’s four-ingredient flapjacks are an absolute must-try.

They’re so simple to whip up, perfect for a post-work baking session, and with such a short ingredient list, you might already have everything you need in your pantry.

Paired with a hot cup of tea, these oaty delights truly shine when made from scratch, and could even be a charming addition to your winter snack selection. As reported by Good to Know, these sweet morsels are “so easy to prepare and only takes 30 minutes to bake.”

The full recipe making 24 servings can be found below:

Ingredients

  • 125g butter (plus extra for greasing)
  • 90g golden syrup
  • 90g light muscovado sugar
  • 250g rolled oats

Method

The method is straightforward too. Begin by lightly greasing a roasting tin or shallow cake tin, roughly 20cm by 30cm. Next, combine butter, syrup, and sugar in a saucepan and heat gently until the ingredients melt. Once fully dissolved, stir in the oats ensuring a thorough mix.

Spoon the mixture into your prepared tin and smooth the surface with a palette knife. Finally, bake the flapjacks in a preheated oven at 180C (160C fan, gas mark four) for around 30 minutes.

Once baked, allow them to cool in the tin for about five minutes, then set them aside. When your oaty creation reaches the perfect balance of solid and slightly soft, chop them into 24 snackable pieces and prepare for a treat.

Mary says these oaty bites are divine when warm but you can stash them in an airtight cake tin for later indulgence. She offers a nifty tip: “recommends keeping a slice of bread in the container as this helps stop the bars from losing moisture and becoming dry.”
