Matheus Cunha’s future continues to be a talking with Manchester United keen – and the Wolves star’s father social media activity has offered a hint as to his thoughts

Matheus Cunha’s father has fuelled talk of a move to Manchester United via his social media activity. The Wolves star has caught the attention of several top clubs with the Red Devils making moves to check his availability.

Cunha has been a leading light at Moilineux and has stood up as they’ve steered themselves clear of the relegation zone. The Brazilian signed a new deal in January, but it included clauses that make a summer exit possible.

Those on the red half of Manchester are particularly keen on Cunha with his father liking a comment on social media. The Wolves star was photographed alongside his father, Carmelo; and team-mates Joao Gomes and Pedro Lima during a birthday bash.

Carmelo shared the moment on Instagram and wrote: “Relaxed moment at Pedrinho Gomes’ first birthday in Wolverhampton, UK.” One of the comments on the post said “Welcome to United” – and Carmelo himself liked it.

Sky Sports reported last month that Cunha has given United positive indications that he is interested in making the move to Old Trafford amid competition to trigger his £62.5million release clause. Ruben Amorim has made him a priority target this summer.

Cunha suits the system Amorim uses and he is tipped to leave Wolves despite his recent commitment to the club. Vitor Pereira has made an instant impact at Molineux but Wolves have seen some of their top players move on when the bigger outfits have come calling – Matheus Nunes being a recent example when he headed to Manchester City.

Pereira himself has offered no guarantees over whether Cunha will remain at the club. He said: “This is a crystal ball, looking into the future. I don’t have this crystal ball. I cannot say that he will leave.

“He is with us – committed with us – and we are happy with him. He has a high quality game, he is a special player. He is committed, with his teammates, to help the club do the best we can until the end of the season.”

United’s budget is likely to rest on whether or not they can land Champions League qualification, which will come via a potential Europa League victory. Should they miss out it could hamper their transfer plans.

Arne Slot previously claimed Cunha was capable of playing for a top Premier League side with Gary Neville recently saying: “They’re desperate in that position, he would suit the system.”
