McDonald’s fans may be wondering if they’ll still be able to get their Big Mac fix this Easter weekend. Many supermarkets are closing their stores on Easter Sunday – but the good news is, your local Maccies restaurant should remain open.

We checked McDonald’s opening times in several different UK towns, and they were all scheduled to open as normal for the entire Easter weekend. McDonald’s has more than 1,400 branches in the UK and Ireland, and around 80% of these are franchised, which means they can set their own hours.

Because of this, opening times do vary massively, but there are a handful of branches that may decide to close on Easter Sunday, or adjust their opening hours. To be absolutely sure of the opening times of your nearest McDonald’s, you can use its restaurant locator tool.

For example, the McDonald’s in Birmingham Temple Row will remain open 24 hours for the entire Easter weekend, as will the Cardiff St Marys Street branch. The Aberdeen City Centre restaurant is open every day from 7am until midnight, and the Brighton branch will be open from 5am until 11.45pm.

It comes after McDonald’s introduced a new limited edition Minecraft movie meal and brand new McFlurry flavour. The new Apple Cake McFlurry features apple and shortcake pieces, and finished with a sour apple sauce.

Meanwhile, the Minecraft movie meal is “crafted for adults” and features a Big Mac or nine McNuggets or four Veggie Dippers, plus your choice of side and drink. It also comes with an exclusive collectable toy of your favourite McDonald’s characters, blockified. The Minecraft movie meal is available in medium or large size.

There is also a new spicy Nether Flame Sauce that has been added to UK menus. The sauce is made with crushed red pepper and flaming cayenne, balanced with hints of garlic and sweetness, and is inspired by the hell-like nether dimension in the Minecraft series, containing fire and lava.

Ben Fox, Senior Vice President Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: “McDonald’s is exploring a brand-new world with the A Minecraft Movie collaboration. We’re always looking for fun and exciting ways to bring excitement to our menu and the A Minecraft Movie Meal is a perfect way to bring two icons together.

“This partnership has allowed us to bring amazing collectibles, crafted for adults, to the UK for the first-time ever! We can’t wait for fans to meet their favourite McDonaldsland characters in blockified form, and to experience the new products which have been inspired by the A Minecraft Movie universe – Nether Sauce and Apple Cake McFlurry.”
