A kitchen expert has shared his simple recipe for recreating McDonald’s Sweet Curry Dip at home – and his TikTok followers can’t wait to try it out for themselves

Many of us have tried to replicate our favourite restaurant meals and sauces at home, but often we can’t quite nail it.

However, McDonald’s enthusiasts should pay attention – a culinary expert claims he has unlocked the secret to recreating the fast food giant’s renowned Sweet Curry Dip. Max (@MealsWithMax), who boasts over two million followers on TikTok, shared a step-by-step video of his “hack”, which he says can be whipped up in no time.

“Craving that McDonald’s curry sauce?” Max asked. “Well let me show you how to make it at home with just a few simple ingredients.” He began by preparing the “base” for the sauce – pouring 120g of tomato ketchup into a pan.

Next, Max added a tablespoon each of curry powder, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce and honey, before rounding off the recipe with half a teaspoon of garlic powder. “Give it a good whisk,” he advised, adding: “We’re then going to bring it to a light simmer on the hob.”

Max then poured 100ml of water into the mix, before bringing the concoction back to a simmer for five minutes. “Now we want to thicken it,” he went on. “So I’m adding one tablespoon of flour [to a glass] and few teaspoons of water and we’re going to mix this together to form a paste.”

After blending the ingredients into a paste and moving it away from the heat, he returned the mixture to the hob to thicken it up too. “It should only take a few minutes,” he explained. “And that’s our curry dipping sauce now done. Thick, delicious and perfect for dipping.”

TikTok users were quick to show their admiration for Max’s culinary skills. One user exclaimed: “You need a cooking show on a kids channel! You give me Big Cook Little Cook [2000s CBeebies show] vibes in the BEST way!”

Another was eager to try out the recipe themselves, saying: “This is insane. Thanks Max I’ll give it a go.” Meanwhile, a third promised to give credit where it’s due: “When I make this I will be tagging you because that is my favourite.”

However, not everyone was convinced by Max’s creation. A fourth TikTok user argued that McDonald’s Sweet Curry Dip was nothing more than “mango chutney with cumin in”. They claimed: “I found out by accident once and it tasted identical.”
