Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly divided over a potential truce with the Royal Family. The controversial couple left ‘The Firm’ gobsmacked when they ditched their royal duties in 2020 and hot-footed it to America.

They then shared their story with Oprah, Netflix and also in Prince Harry’s damning book, Spare. However, when the dad-of-two, 40, met his father, King Charles, 76, last month for peace talks, there were high hopes a reconciliation may be on the cards.

Sources now claim the monarch is pushing for a “pre-nup style” agreement to shore up any future relationship between the Sussexes and the Palace. However, Meghan, 44, is said to be “less forthcoming” over the arrangement.

Speaking to Closer, a source said: “The Palace is pushing for a formal contract. It would be an official set of boundaries covering when and how the Sussexes can appear at events and what information is kept behind closed doors. The idea is to stop any royal dramas.”

They continued: “While Harry is said to offered a ‘degree of transparency’, Meghan has been less forthcoming. Harry might be willing to bend, Meghan less so. She’s adamant that she won’t agree to royal talks, if their needs aren’t met.”

The Suits star, whose second series of With Love, Meghan, drops on Netflix today, is said to have “floated around” security guarantee visits with her husband when they are in the UK, in the hope of repairing their relationship with the Palace.

However, the Palace is reportedly irked by these demands, which are seen as “extra obligations” for the Royal Family to have to deal with.

The source also claims that the royals are still “struggling to trust the couple” after they shared their side of the story with chat show icon, Oprah Winfrey and streaming giant, Netflix.

Adding to the tension, it’s been alleged that Prince William and Kate Middleton are reluctant to reunite with Meghan and Harry after the Spare star met with King Charles.

The source claims: “William and Kate haven’t been part of that process and that’s telling. There’s still a lot of hurt there.”

It comes after Harry admitted he would ‘love a reconciliation’ with his family in a BBC interview earlier this year, in which he conceded that “There is no point fighting any more, life is precious.”

However, with the Palace reportedly wanting any future relationship with the couple to be on “their terms” and Meghan and Harry only open to a deal “if it meets their needs”, it seems there is a long way to go before both camps are happy.

The Mirror has contacted Meghan and Harry’s rep and Buckingham Palace for comment on this story.
