Celebrities like Lizzo, Ayo Edebiri and Cardi B gave fans a glimpse into the Met Gala but they could get in trouble with Anna Wintour. She has strict rules with what’s allowed

Anna Wintour has very strict rules when it comes to the Met Gala.

At the 2024 Met Gala, Anna chose a mix of celebrities to help organise the event; Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Lopez. They were part of this year’s chair committee. The Garden of Time dress code went hand in hand with the post-Gala fashion exhibit and theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

Although Anna has a say on what people can wear and what is not allowed inside the event, one rule in particular always seems to be broken. Guests find a way to sneak in a selfie during the fundraiser or in the bathroom.

Inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art fundraiser, a couple of celebrities sneaked in some snaps of the night. The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri took pictures with Nicholas Galitzine, Kaia Gerber, Troye Sivan and Rachel Sennott, while rapper Cardi B showed her fans on social media close-up of who was sitting at her table. Lizzo took the more traditional route and kept the Met Gala bathroom selfie and posed with Uma Thurman and Stella McCartney.

Even though the phone rule had not been confirmed or denied by Anna, back in 2015, guests received a notice that stated, “use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala,” according to Page Six. At that time, Vogue was filming a documentary named The First Monday of May, which took guests look at the China: Through the Looking Glass themed Met Gala.

It looked like this year, Anna was a little more lenient with the selfies even though in 2014, she confessed to have never taken one herself. Venus Williams and Serena Williams took pictures on the carpet and others like Lil Nas X, Amanda Gorman and Karlie Kloss did as well.

Surpassingly the Kardashian-Jenner squad did not post any selfies inside the event. Who could forget the iconic mirror bathroom selfie with Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, A$AP Rocky, Paris Jackson, Brie Larson and others in 2017? Kim, Kendall, Kylie and Kris Jenner were in attendance after rumours spread that only Kendall was invited. Even though each of them wore something different, one thing they had in common was their natural makeup.
