The national forecaster has warned people living in London and the south east that thunderstorms are likely later today
Brits should brace for more weather chaos as thunderstorms and lightning are expected to cause damage later today.
After stormy weather began drenching the British Isles last weekend, many had thought there would be a return to drier conditions this week.
However, the Met Office has now issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in London and the south east today.
The main areas affected are Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, and Kent, the forecaster adds.
The stormy weather could see as much as 20-25mm of rain dumped on these areas in less than an hours. In a few locations, there could be as much as 30 to 40mm in one to two hours.
With this amount of water, surface flooding and disruption is likely, and lightning strikes could be an additional hazard, the forecaster said.
“Showers and thunderstorms will slowly die out during Wednesday evening”, the warnings reads.
