Michael Bolton has spoken about being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour for the first time with his daughter revealing he was singing after surgery
Michael Bolton revealed he wasn’t going to allow his aggressive brain cancer to defeat him The legendary singer underwent emergency brain surgery on December 4, 2023 and revealed the news to fans the next month.
At the time, he didn’t state whether the tumour was cancerous – not did he share the reason behind the surgery but said he would need time off in order to recover. His loved ones first noticed that Michael was ill when he experienced balance issues and nausea while holidaying on Necker Island in 2023.
Following two operations and rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the singer was given the clear earlier this month after having monitoring MRI scans every two months.
In a new interview, the singer said: “Succumbing to the challenge is not an option. You’re really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that’s the way you find out what you’re made of.” Speaking to People magazine, he continued: “Whenever you find yourself in any kind of challenging position, just to know that you’re not alone going through it is a big deal.”
During his treatment, Michael was purposely not given a prognosis for his condition. “It reminds them that they’re not alone,” he said. Now that he’s been given the clear, he admits that his health scare has given him a stronger sense of appreciation for life. His daughter, Holly, revealed that while in recovery following his operation, he started singing “within minutes”.
Although he’s one of the biggest singers in the world, Holly, 47, explained that one nurse had no idea who she was treating and told Bolton’s family how she was blown away by his voice.
