This straightforward cooking hack shared on TikTok left plenty of viewers impressed and noting the way it can also save on using energy by turning the hob off earlier than normal

Cooking pasta sounds easy enough but there is always the potential for over or undercooking it, which can ruin the overall dish.

However, there is a tried and tested method that has left social media users amazed. Not only is the hack quick and easy to follow but it also saves on energy bills as the hob is used for just two minutes. In a clip called ‘Why doesn’t everyone do this?’, Stef Pollack posted a nine-second TikTok video on her Cupcakeproject page. In it, she is first seen placing a bunch of uncooked spaghetti into a pan of boiling water.

She writes: “After learning this pasta hack, I’m never making pasta the old way again. It starts by dropping pasta into boiling water. But here’s where it changes…” Stef then advises to cook the paste for “exactly two minutes” before turning off the heat completely. It’s perfectly done every single time. No testing needed,” the influencer finishes as she pulls out the cooked pasta from the pan. The video has been viewed almost 24,000 times since it was posted and with 165 comments from viewers.

One impressed user said: “Makes the perfect pasta. Do it all the time,” and another added “Great hack , thank you..” While many pointed out the energy-saving benefits of this technique, as one commented: “Mmm – good for energy saving!” and a second noted: “It’s an energy saving tip. Costs less.”

Earlier this year, another TikTok video highlighted a quick and easy way to measure out one portion of spaghetti so you don’t end up cooking too much (or too little) by accident. On GoodtoKnow’s TikTok channel, a woman was seen portioning out one serving using a pasta ladle. For this, she simply slots enough pasta through the hole usually used for drainage, claiming it is the perfect amount for just one person. The video reads: “Thought this hole was just for draining? It can also be used to measure one serving of spaghetti!”

Commenting on the clip, one happy user said “Wow.” A second person said: “Never knew that.” However, others claim they’d still overdo it with the pasta even knowing this, saying: “Then I need three of that.” One more user added: “I used half a packet as a serving” and another said: “The serving sizes that are on the packaging are just dumb. I couldn’t feed a baby with that size.”
