‘I saw Pope’s body and couldn’t believe what people were doing by coffin’
Our reporters Matthew Young and Elizabeta Ranxburgaj were left shocked at people’s lack of respect for the Pope lying-in-state.
There was no silent reflection for what, ultimately, were just a few brief moments in front of the open coffin – a ritual steeped in hundreds of years of history. When crowds arrived before the body of Francis, they were asked to put selfie sticks away, but phones remained front and centre.

Girl, 8, breaks neck on ‘lethal’ zipline at park after ’10 foot fall’
This Wednesday, we reported how a young girl was rushed to hospital with a broken neck following a ride on a “lethal” zipline in a recently revamped playpark.

After taking her to hospital in a panic last month, medics later confirmed Lois had suffered a serious neck fracture, and quickly had a halo brace made for her. Lois’ parents are now campaigning to ensure other children don’t meet her same fate.
