Police officer dressed as Grinch punches reveller at parade in Chile

In the famous book by Dr Seuss, the Grinch famously stole Christmas before coming around and finding joy with the Whos – but a police officer dressed as the character was a little more violent.

The copper is said to have been agitated when a reveller started harassing and teasing a colleague at a parade in La Pintana, Chile. In a shocking video caught by an onlooker, the man can be seen running up behind the officer, triggering him to retaliate.

The sergeant, dressed as the green character in a Santa suit, charges at the man throwing several punches as the man stands there. Before he has the chance to fight back, he is jabbed once again causing him to fall to the ground.

The police officer stands over him and it appears the violent situation comes to a halt. In the background of the clip, a woman dressed as an elf can be seen jumping from a vehicle in the road to run to the scene to help.

Many people witnessed the fight, as people lined both sides of the street where the parade took place. The incident shocked those present at the event with many heard shouting and screaming during the altercation. Several children can also be heard screaming in the video.

Around 200 people were in attendance at the event. Both of the officials were sitting aboard a pick-up truck when the altercation was triggered, after the man decided to harass one of them.

The officers belong to the Carabineros, which is the Chilean national law enforcement. Around ten people who were at the scene were able to remove the police officer after the incident. The man who was subjected to the assault was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a dental injury and minor injuries to his lower back.
